Canon Selphy CP1200 Mobile Printer Review

Canon Selphy CP1300 Mprtable Printer

Canon Selphy SP1200 Mobile Printer

The Canon Selphy CP1200 is the second-youngest generation of the popular Selphy printers. It is a huge improvement over its predecessor, the CP910, which had its day but is no longer in production. The CP1200 came out of the gate with major portability improvements, like an optional rechargeable battery that can provide up to 54 prints on one charge. It also has a dedicated WiFi button for faster and easier connections, plus the CP1200 is compatible with Apple AirPrint, as well as Android and Kindle Fire platforms through the Canon PRINT app. The CP1200 will be a hit at parties since it can go anywhere and the prints are high quality and dry as soon as they come out of the feeder. It also comes in black or white to suit your personal style.

FEATURES

Portability:  The rechargeable battery and lightweight design make it perfectly portable. It is designed to go wherever the party takes you.

Connectivity:  A dedicated WiFi button allows for easy connection. The CP 1200 can also connect via USB, memory card, and flash drive.

Compatibility: The Canon PRINT app allows uploads from Facebook, Instagram, and direct from iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire devices.

Print Options: Print in your choice of four styles and sizes: Card size (2.1” x 3.4”), Postcard size (3.9” x 5.8”), L Size (3.5” x 4.7”) and square label (2.0” x 2.0”)

Paper and Ink refills: Avoid waste with the perfectly proportioned paper packages that contain just enough paper and ink for 18, 36, or 54 photos.

Portability

The market is rich with options for portable printing as the old-fashioned Polaroid enjoys a long-deserved resurgence in popular culture. The digital printers of today take that instant gratification and make it easier and faster (no more shakin’ like a Polaroid picture!). The CP1200 is light, travels easily, and can operate wirelessly. Take it to picnics, parties, sporting events, wherever your life goes. It can be a bit bulky since you would want to carry the adapter even if you plan to use the optional battery. You also have to be sure you have the detachable trays necessary for feeding and “catching” the photo paper.

Usage

The CP1200 is easy to use, especially with the Wi-Fi capability. AirPrint allows you to print from any app through your iOS device, so you’re covered if you prefer not to use the Canon PRINT app. Android and Kindle Fire users will still have to use the Canon App, which reports say can be a little user unfriendly. Still, there are other ways to hook up your shots – through a USB connection, flash drive, or memory card – and multiple people can access the printer through WiFi. Once you are all hooked up, the LCD screen tilts up for easier viewing and the buttons on the printer (it is not a touch screen) are responsive and make navigation through the menus a simple task. You can adjust the color and even arrange a collage from the 2.7” screen.

Photo and Print Quality

Printing can take a little more time with the Selphy CP1200, especially through wireless connections. It can be up to a minute, in fact, for a standard photo and some devices can slow things down even more. The finished product, however, is generally going to be worth the wait. The photos are instantly dry due to the dye-sublimation process, which essentially works as a heat transfer onto the photo paper. The printer defaults to glossy finish but, as with color settings, you can arrange for less gloss (though not quite matte) if you prefer. Finally, the options for photos of different sizes, with or without borders, as well as sticker photos, make this printer a great addition to a party.

Bottom line

The Selphy CP1200 is a great portable printer. It can be slow and bulky, but the finished product is definitely going to be a hit with your friends and family. The options for photo shape and size and the quality picture really put it over the top. The price range is compatible, and the only drawback financially is that the optional battery costs almost as much as the printer itself. Still, people love to take pictures of themselves and their friends and they can take and share with ease if the CP1200 is invited to the party.
