The Fujifilm Instax Share SP3 is the latest generation of Fujifilm portable printers. With this version, Fujifilm has stepped up the style and made the Instax Share SP-3 a jewel among its plain box predecessors. Beveled edges and sleek detailing make up for the fact that this smartphone printer is a little too big to fit in your pocket. Still, it is small enough to be hand-held and can be easily transported in a backpack or purse. This tiny piece of art produces crisp photos printed on actual film that, while more expensive than those used by the competition, are clearly superior.
Portability: The Instax Share SP-3 is larger than most of its competitors at 5.1” x 4.5” x 1.7” and it weighs 11.1 ounces. It’s still small enough to be hand-held, though, and can slip into a larger bag.
Connectivity: The Instax Share SP-3 connects to your smartphone via WiFi. The app actually takes the pictures or you can log into your social media accounts to pull photos from your accounts.
Print Quality: Fujifilm’s smartphone printer uses actual analog film and the photos are detailed and vibrant. There is a collage setting that ends up at a slightly lower quality, but that is mostly due to fitting multiple pictures in a 2.4” square.
Print Speed: Undeveloped photos come out of the unit in as little as 13 seconds. They develop over time like the instamatics of days gone by.

The Fujifilm Instax Share SP-3 is significantly more expensive than its competitors. Priced as high as $199.95, the sticker shock continues when you pay $16.99 for a ten-pack of film. With other smartphone printers coming in at just over $100.00 or so, and with Zink paper costing about $9.95 for 20 sheets, it’s hard to justify the Instax Share SP-3’s higher cost.
PRINT QUALITY AND SPEED
The print quality goes far in making up for the price tag that comes with the Instax SP-3. Again, collage mode leaves a little to be desired once multiple shots are squeezed in the 2.4” square, but single shots have clarity and depth that Zink shots generally can’t match. The photos print fast at about 13 seconds, with additional time to develop. All in all, the Instax SP-3 has a unique look that produces great shots. Clearly Fujifilm is focused on the visual product and, really, isn’t that what a photo is about?
Style goes a long way in the age of Instagram and Snapchat. Why bother with a photo printer at all if you don’t want the best photos? If quality of the photo and the look of the printer itself are your priority, then the Instax SP-3 is the perfect smartphone printer for you. You’ll pay a little more and you won’t be able to slip it in your pocket, but you will appreciate it when you get your perfect tiny pictures.
